Abstract

A facile strategy is developed to fabricate a MnO2 nanowire/reduced graphene oxide (rGO) hybrid with an interconnected structure. The morphology and microstructure of the hybrid is examined by field emission scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and X-ray diffraction analysis. The electrochemical properties of the MnO2 nanowire as an anode material for lithium-ion batteries are improved by this general strategy involving the addition of rGO sheets to the nanowires, producing a MnO2 nanowires@rGO hybrid (MGH). The rGO effectively buffers the volume changes during the lithiation/delithiation process, allowing the hybrid to retain its structure, without sacrificing its electrochemical performance. As a result, MGH delivers a highly reversible capacity of 1079 mA h g_1 over 200 cycles at a current density of 500 mA g_1, and excellent rate capability, thus such a reasonably stable hybrid exhibits great potential as an anode material for lithium ion batteries.
