Abstract	An acid-base-responsive fabric was fabricated by combining a facile chemical deposition of micro- and nanostructure CuO microspheres with the following assembly of mixed thiols (containing HS(CH₂)₁₇CH₃ and HS(CH₂)₁₀COOH). It was found that the hierarchical CuO fabric modified with mixed thiols containing 0.8 molar ratio of HS(CH₂)₁₀COOH shows good pH responsivity, which can switch between high hydrophobicity for an acid and a superhydrophilicity for base.
