AbstractFe3+-montmorillonite was first used as asolidacidiccatalyst for the synthesis of xanthenedionederivatives through condensation reactions between aromatic aldehydes and dimedone. This process provides several advantages such as good yields of products, simple operation, convenient separation, and inexpensive and recyclablecatalyst.
