AbstractFive types of micro-dimples with different area densities and Si-DLC films were produced on the surface of Al2O3/Ni laminated composites. The friction properties and wear mechanisms in a water environment were studied. Results show that the method is effective in achieving composition-lubrication on the surface of laminated ceramics by laser texturing and magnetron sputtering. The synergy effect of micro-texture and films influence the tribological properties of Al2O3/Ni laminated composites. The friction coefficient can be reduced by nearly one order of magnitude from 0.51 to approximately 0.06, compared to the conventional Al2O3/Ni laminated composites.
