AbstractThe variations of triboelectrification electrostatic poten-tial of graphite (GP)/monomer casting (MC) nylon com-posites under plane contact dry sliding were investi-gated and the correlation with electrical resistivity andwear mechanisms were studied. MC nylon could bemodified as excellent anti-triboelectrification materialsby a proper addition of GP, although unfilled MC nylonwas inclined to generate higher triboelectrification elec-trostatic potential after friction due to the high electricalresistivity. The triboelectrification electrostatic potentialand electrical resistivity of composites can be predictedby the content control of GP. The incorporation of GP fil-ler made considerable contributions, which not onlyreduced and stabilized the triboelectrification electro-static potential of composites but also enhanced theirlubricating properties and the friction heat dissipation. The influences of PV-values on the triboelectrificationelectrostatic potential of composites were less than thatof electrical resistivity. Although the severe wear and theformation of transfer films resulted in triboelectrificationelectrostatic potential of unfilled MC nylon abruptlydropping shortly after the beginning of friction under thehigh PV-values, it was conductive property, particleshape and size, distribution and dispersion of GP fillers, and density of conductive network built by GP flakesthat played the dominant role in deciding triboelectrifi-cation electrostatic potential of composites undervarious PV-values.
